IMG_3848 2Have you ever felt like the rabbit in Alice and Wonderland? He’s forever referring to a huge pocket watch, yelling, “I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date! I’m overdue, I’m really in a stew! No time to say goodbye, hello, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!”

As a single individual beyond society’s expected age for marriage, I can easily relate by experiencing an overwhelming sense of tardiness. Sometimes I feel left behind, and my hope wavers, waiting to see whether I’ll hold on tightly or give up completely. As I was reflecting on how much time has passed in my life and asking God for a better understanding of time from His perspective, He showed me the truth. He revealed to me that He sees time very differently from the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland and inspired me to write this poem. This is how He sees the workings behind the clock:

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems.
It bows to the name of Jesus.
It stretches to accomplish God’s purpose.
It accelerates at the hand of the Lord.

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date.
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems.
Time shows God’s patience.
For He’s slow to anger and His loving-kindness
leads us to repentance.
His hand of mercy holds back the minute hand.

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date.
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems
For the author of time lives outside of it.
Infinite. Countless. Boundless.
Immeasurable. Vast. Limitless.

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date.
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems.
Even the sun and the moon once stood still
Causing victory over the enemy.
Time bends at the hand of the Almighty.

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date.
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems.
It waits for nothing but the sounds from heaven—
Bells tolling to initiate Jehovah-Jireh’s next move.
He accompanies me in the waiting room
Between the asking and receiving, ushering me lovingly to the finish line.

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date.
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems.
Make haste! There’s no time to waste!
For the Kingdom clock hastens suddenlies at the slightest whisper from
the Master of time who is, who was, and who forever will be.

Look at the time! Look at the time!
I’m right on target for God’s due date.
It’s nearly the midnight hour!
Time isn’t what it seems.
The One whose hand adjusts the face of the clock in my life
Is more than able to finish the good work He has begun.
I haven’t missed it, and I’m not going to miss it!
Yes, I’m right on target for God’s due date.

The same is true for you, friend! If you had always assumed you’d be married by now, don’t give up hope! Perfect timing can mean one thing to you and something else entirely to God. But I guarantee that His timing is always best because He alone can see the big picture, and He adjusts the hand of His kingdom clock to accomplish all of His purposes leading up to the due date of your dreams coming true. God holds the calendar of your life, and your birthday wasn’t an accident. Take heart: Jesus is greater than the constraints of this world and is working to accomplish His good plans for you even now.
